SUMMARY:High School Area Show Public Opening
DESCRIPTION:The High School Area Show offers a unique opportunity for high school artists from Kalamazoo and surrounding counties to participate in a juried exhibition and display their work in a museum setting. This program also provides students the chance to win scholarships and prizes. The KIA is proud to support emerging artistic talent and committed to increasing young people’s access to arts and art education. \nThe show is open to high school students residing in Allegan\, Barry\, Berrien\, Branch\, Calhoun\, Cass\, Kalamazoo\, St. Joseph\, and Van Buren counties. Students can submit up to two works online through CaFÉ (callforentry.org). Submissions are being accepted now through February 9. If you have any questions about submitting your work\, please email museumed@kiarts.org.

SUMMARY:Baby Grands Concert
DESCRIPTION:The Gilmore will collaborate with the Kalamazoo Nature Center and Face Off Theater to present a free concert featuring pianist Brandon Fitzpatrick and an actor from Face Off Theater who will read stories.  This is geared toward young children and families.  Snacks will be provided for the kids and coffee for the adults.  The Gilmore will also collaborate with Metro Connect to provide transportation from the Douglass Community Center for those who need it\, and will continue its longstanding partnerships with local agencies to include and welcome diverse communities.

DESCRIPTION:Due to illness\, Richard Goode & Sarah Shafer have postponed their March 16  performance at Stetson Chapel to June 18 at 7:30 pm. Ticketholders will be contacted with instructions by email. \nAccomplished artists of two generations will perform a dynamic program of music by Fauré\, Brahms\, and Schubert. Venerable virtuoso Richard Goode is known for performances of tremendous emotional power\, depth\, and expressiveness. A leading interpreter of works by Mozart and Beethoven\, he is an exclusive Nonesuch recording artist who won a Grammy® Award for the Brahms Sonatas recorded with clarinetist Richard Stoltzman. He is on the Distinguished Artist Faculty of the Peabody Institute. \nStar soprano Sarah Shafer has distinguished herself as equally comfortable with lieder and opera. Praised for her leading roles with the Metropolitan Opera and San Francisco Opera\, she has sung with the Philadelphia Orchestra\, and Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra\, and at the Spoleto Festival USA and the Oregon Bach Festival. \nConcert preview at 6:30 pm in the Olmsted Room with Dr. Zaide Pixley
